Silva powers past Emelianenko
Fedor Emelianenko was left contemplating retirement after being outclassed in his clash with Antonio Silva at MMA Strikeforce in New Jersey.
The Russian, who has been a dominating presence in heavyweight mixed martial arts over the last 10 years, was forced to quit when a doctor ordered the fight to be stopped at the end of the second round.
Before that ‘Big Foot’ Silva had unleashed a barrage of blows on the ground which left Emelianenko’s right eye severely swollen.
"Yes, maybe it's the last time. Maybe it's high time," Fedor said through his translator afterwards. "Thank God for everything. I spent a great, beautiful, long, sport life. Maybe it's God's will."
Elsewhere on the card Sergei Kharitonov made an impressive debut, knocking out Andrei Arlovski in the first round and moving into the heavyeweight grand prix semi-finals along with Antonio Silva.
