McLeish vows to carry on at Villa

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish remained defiant after a disappointing Barclays Premier League campaign ended in a 2-0 defeat at Norwich.

First-half goals from the hosts' leading scorer Grant Holt and Simeon Jackson made for a party atmosphere in the Norfolk sunshine - where the several thousand Villa fans sent a loud and clear message they expected much better next season.

Despite calls for his dismissal and also clear backing for opposite number Paul Lambert by the travelling Villa faithful, McLeish - who has a meeting with owner Randy Lerner scheduled for next week - insists he remains the man to get the Midlands club back on track.

"That was an unacceptable performance in Aston Villa colours and I have to change that, and there will be change," said McLeish, a somewhat controversial appointment to replace Gerard Houllier after leaving bitter rivals Birmingham following their relegation last season.

"I cannot accept that because I have been used to winning trophies all of my career as a player and a manager.

"I might not have had the riches to spend of other managers, but believe I can turn Aston Villa around by adding quality and players who are going to work their socks off."
