Davis grabs third victory

Double Olympic champion Shani Davis racked up his third ISU speed skating World Cup win of the season with victory in Obihiro, Japan.

The 28-year-old has now topped the podium in all three of his 1000m World Cup outings this season, having missed last week's competition in Changchun, China.

Davis crossed the line in 1 minnute 9.56 seconds, taking gold ahead of South Korea's Lee Kyou-Hyuk while Canada's Denny Morrison, a two-time world silver medallist in the event, took bronze.

The American is now in third place in the overall rankings with 300 points -- 42 behind leader Lee while the Netherlands' Stefan Groothuis, a double winner last time out, is second on 330.

In the men's 500m, former world record holder Lee Kang-Seok secured gold in a time of 35.11 seconds, ensuring there was no home victory for Japanese skaters Keiichiro Nagashima and Akio Ota, who both had times of 35.16.

Lee leads the overall World Cup standings with 550 points while Japan's Joji Kato is second (515) and Nagashima is third on 408. 

South Korean Lee Sang-Kwa won the women's 500m in 38.18, 0.03 seconds ahead of China's Jing Yu. Germany's Jenny Wolf was third in 38.25 but maintains her lead in the overall standings with 620 points.

Lee is second on 570 points while Japan's Nao Kodaira is third, 205 points adrift of Wolf.
