Italian Eddy Ratti has been suspended by the UCI after testing positive for EPO.
The 32-year-old Ratti tested positive for the blood-boosting hormone in an out-of-competition urine test on January 21, the UCI said.
The sample was taken as part of a testing program to ensure all new riders on the biological passport program are monitored.
Ratti is provisionally suspended until the Italian cycling federation holds a disciplinary hearing. Italian authorities are notoriously strict on doping matters.
The rider was scheduled to ride for the De Rosa-Stac Plastic team this season.
