Bjoergen nears overall title with Sweden win

Marit Bjoergen claimed her fourth straight victory with gold in the FIS Cross-Country 1km Classic Sprint in Stockholm to inch her ever closer to the overall title.

Heading into the final sprint of the season the pressure was off for American Kikkan Randall, having already wrapped up the title, and it showed as she finished eighth in Sweden.

But the overall World Cup is far from over and Bjoergen stormed to victory to extend her lead over Justyna Kowalczyk to 160 points with just two events remaining.

The Norwegian won a thrilling race, with the top four places separated by less than a second.

Russian Julia Ivanova had to settle for silver, while Bjoergen's compatriot Maiken Capsersen Falla took third, third but all eyes were on Bjoergen who will hope to secure the World Cup title this weekend in Falun.
