Spanish newspapers claim that Pep Guardiola is in talks over his Barcelona future, with conflicting reports as to whether he will extend his contract by another year.

Guardiola, who has a policy of only singing one-year rolling deals, is the constant target of speculation that he may move to clubs in England, mostly on account of his reluctance to commit to a job in the long-term.

In recent weeks he has been linked with Chelsea, Liverpool and even Manchester City, but the former Barcelona midfielder and B-team manager has overseen the most successful spell in the Catalan club’s history, winning an unprecedented domestic and European treble last season.

Marca claimed that the coach and assistant Tito Vilanova "may announce the extension of their contracts by one more year at the end of the day" after a meeting at the Camp Nou with club directors and Guardiola’s representative Jose Maria Orobitg.

Barcelona-based paper El Mundo Deportivo had a slightly more negative tone, saying the meeting was to discuss "why Guardiola has so far failed to renew his contract" at the club.

Sport, another Barcelona-based publication, claimed that talks were expected to conclude on Wednesday "without a decision having been made".

One thing appears to be certain – Guardiola’s agent arrived at the Camp Nou at lunchtime and has been locked in meetings all afternoon.

Barcelona have lagged behind rivals Real Madrid in the Liga title race but are on track for a Cup double after progressing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the Copa del Rey final.
