The St. Louis Blues took the interim tag off Davis Payne's name to confirm the 39-year-old as the NHL's youngest head coach.
After taking over from Andy Murray, Payne guided the Blues to a 23-15-4 record which included a 12-5-2 mark at home.
"Davis did an outstanding job for us and earned the opportunity to be a permanent head coach in the National Hockey League for our club," Blues president John Davidson said on the team's website.
Before being promoted to the St. Louis head coaching position, Payne spent two seasons managing the Blues' American Hockey League affiliates, the Peoria Rivermen.
