There is an agreement in place that would allow Krkic, 21, to return to his former club one year into a two-year agreement with talks set to take place between Barca and Roma over his immediate future. Barca can reportedly buy the player back for 17 million euros.

Doubts have been cast over his future in Serie A with Enrique, the coach who brought him to the club, set to depart.

Krkic has scored six goals in 32 appearances for Roma, who finished seventh in the Serie A table.

“My future? We will have to talk a little bit, but I can say that I am very happy in Rome and not dependent on the new coach," he said.

“This is a beautiful place, I like it a lot.

“For my own season I can be very satisfied, it’s been a great experience, because I came from a totally different kind of football and for an attacker, the Italian League is the most difficult.

“If we want to win, something is missing, but I think that we are working, we are a good team so we must improve.

“Ours has been an uneven season, we’ve lacked the focus on the small details.”
