Giro d'Italia - Scarponi searched in doping raid
The Lampre-ISD team have confirmed that Italian doping police searched Michele Scarponi's hotel room at his training camp near Mount Etna.
The news follows reports that the Italian headquarters of Russian team Katusha were raided on Thursday.
Italy’s NAS squad arrived Katusha’s training camp near Brescia in what is now believed to be a wide-reaching investigation by Padova magistrate Benedetto Roberti into the actions of sports doctor Michele Ferrari.
Meanwhile Scarponi, who was at a high-altitude training camp near Mount Etna ahead of the Giro d’Italia, was searched along with team-mate Leonardo Bertagnolli as they returned to the Hotel Corsaro di Nicolosi following a training session.
Lampre insisted that police only found a legal anti-inflammatory medicine called 'Oki', powdered milk and some Enervit energy bars.
Scarponi served an 18-month ban for his involvement in the Operacion Puerto case, returning this year with Lampre.
