Amoros, 48, who had been working as a consultant with Olympique Marseille, will take charge of his first match in September.

The islands in the Indian Ocean - ranked 171st in the world, according to FIFA - begin their preliminaries away at Zambia in a qualifying group that also includes Libya and Mozambique.

The Comoros have been FIFA members for five years and lost 10-2 on aggregate to Madagascar in an early round play-off match at the start of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
