Robert Rock made it to the US Open at Congressional Country Club after paying 15,000 for a United States visa.

The 34-year-old Englishman had missed Tuesday's deadline for registration at Congressional but was granted an extension, and arrived late on Wednesday night - albeit 15,000 poorer after huge legal fees to get a last-minute visa.

"Flew into New York and landed at half past 11 last night - drove straight down here and arrived at 3.30," said Rock. "The taxi was about $1,000 to get down here - but I was in no mood to argue."

While Rock will be delighted to take up his place in the year's second Major, he will set off in Thursday's opening round without having even had a practice round at the par-71 Congressional layout.

The Englishman is scheduled to tee off in the company of American Kevin Chappell and South Korean Kim Do-hoon at 2.19pm local time.

Rock, who won his maiden European Tour title at the Italian Open in Turin on Sunday, booked his place at the US Open via an international qualifying event at Walton Heath, England last month.
