Bundesliga - Diego nears Wolfsburg exit
Brazilian playmaker Diego has confirmed that he is in talks with Atletico Madrid about a possible move to the Spanish capital.
The 26-year old has long been out of favour at the Bundesliga club and now appears to have finally found a new destination as he looks to resurrect his career.
On Tuesday, AS reported that Atletico had offered €5 million (£4.3m) for the Brazilian as Gregorio Manzano's side are thought to be keen on bringing the player to the Vicente Calderon in order to add some much-needed creativity following the departure of Sergio Aguero to Manchester City.
Personal terms between the player and the Liga side have reportedly been agreed and the deal is now in the hands of the Germans, who are thought to want closer to €10m (£8.6m).
Diego told Bild: "We are still not clear, there is nothing official, but there is an offer for me.
"Atletico are a big club, but I still have a contract with Wolfsburg. This is a very important period for me."
Diego, who cost Wolfsburg €15.5m (13.5m) in the summer of 2010, has yet to be given a place on the Lower Saxony side's bench in a competitive match this season, as it appears coach Felix Magath has decided he is past the point of no return.
