Bundesliga - Wolfsburg sign Hitzlsperger
VfL Wolfsburg have completed the signing of German midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger on a three-year deal following his release from West Ham.
The 29-year-old has been linked to a number of clubs over the summer after a clause in his contract at West Ham stipulated that he could leave the East London-based side should they get relegated.
Hitzlsperger's former club, Aston Villa, were reportedly keen on re-signing the player who spent four years at Villa Park before moving to VfB Stuttgart in order to break into the German national side ahead of the 2006 World Cup.
Nicknamed 'Der Hammer' due to his powerful shot, the midfielder starred for the Hammers during their fight for survival in the 2010-11 Premier League season but was unable to help them avoid the drop.
