The world champion clocked a superb time of 56:20 on the 48.5km course which saw him win the race by over two minutes from Saxo Bank's Gustav Larsson.

Britain's Alex Dowsett (Team Sky) finished a credible third while David Millar (Garmin) was fifth – a full 3:51 off Martin's time.

Martin's effort also smashed Millar's course record of 58:53 set back in 2010.

Martin won the World Championship in Copenhagen last month and then just last week wrapped up the Tour of Beijing again largely on the back of the race's time-trial stage.

American Amber Neben won the women's event.
