Ferrari takes first stage in Argentina
Roberto Ferrari opened his season with victory on the opening stage of the Tour de San Luis in Argentina.
The Italian won the 166km stage from San Luis to Justo Diract for his new Androni Giocattoli team, holding off the challenge of Brazilian Maximiliano Richeze and Jacobo Guarneri.
In a closely-fought sprint, Ferrari went wheel-to-wheel with Richeze, eventually overcoming him to sneak by half a bike length.
"It's a great pleasure for me and the team," Ferrari said afterwards. "It was a great race just as we been expecting.
"I came to this race to win a stage and it has happened for me."
Ferrari also takes the overall lead, earning a 10-second bonus for taking the stage win.
The second stage of the Tour features three climbs, including one to the finish.
