Miroslav Klose was two metres offside in Wednesday's first knockout round first leg in Germany but Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo gave the goal.

"It was an error that decided the game. Errors happen but this was serious, we are not talking about centimetres but metres," Abete said having spoken to Platini, who was at the game.

Furious Fiorentina owner Diego Della Valle said the assistant referee should "go to an opticians".

Even Bayern Munich boss Louis van Gaal said the goal was offside, and called for video replays to be used in key incidents.
