Estonia's Stan Pentus won the second Formula Renault 3.5 Series race of the weekend at Motorland Aragon.
Fortec Motorsport's Pentus had started the race second on the grid after Australia's Daniel Ricciardo (Tech 1 Racing) topped the second qualifying session, but a flying start saw Pentus and Jan Charouz overhaul Ricciardo going into turn one.
Charouz quickly took the lead in the race, with Pentus and Ricciardo close behind - but Pentus took advantage of a better pit stop to jump into first place.
Ricciardo also overtook Charouz during the sequence of pit stops to go second, and the trio finished the race in the same order.
"I've made progress during the winter. I know the car better, we've done a lot of work and this win today is a reward for all that," said Pentus.
"There's still a long way to go to get to the highest level, but we're on the right track. We went for the right race strategy. It's been a good day for us."
Ricciardo was happy with his weekend despite the disappointment of missing out on the victory after qualifying fastest for both races.
"Tonight I lead the championship," he said. "Scoring points is important. Now I need to work on my starts. At the moment, that's my weak point."
In the 2.0 class, Pentus's fellow Estonian Kevin Korjus won his second race of the weekend after once again benefiting from a crash up ahead that saw Arthur Pic and Andre Negrao go off.
