Marsicano claims top spot with gold
America's Trevor Marsicano went top of of the World Cup speed skating standings with victory over 1,500m in Salt Lake City.
Marsicano edged compatriot Shani Davis to top the pile and add to the gold he won in his last outing on the ice in Hamar.
Davis crossed the line three-tenths behind Marsicano, with Dutchman Mark Tuitert in third, a further 0.16 seconds back.
Another Dutchman, Simon Kuipers, who held the previous overall lead, could only manage a seventh-placed finish. He drops to third in the World Cup standings.
In the women's 5,000m race, Martina Sablikova of the Czech Republic set a world record time of 6:42.66 to claim gold ahead of Germany's Stephanie Beckert and Japanese duo Eriko Ishino and Shiho Ishizawa.
Victory for Sablikova, her second in succession following success in Moscow, saw her reclaim the lead in the World Cup standings from Beckert.
