World Cup champion Pierre Vaultier took gold at the World Cup final in La Molina to round off a snowboardcross season that seemed to be tailing off with poor performances at the Winter Olympics and at Valmalenco.

The Frenchman, 22, had already completed a second overall snowboardcross World Cup triumph before the Winter Olympics in February.

But after finishing a disappointing ninth in Vancouver and 16th in Valmalenco last week, Vaultier bounced back in style in the season-ending event in Spain.

Vaultier qualified fastest before beating Australia's Alex Pullin and USA's Patrick Holland in the final for his fifth World Cup win of 2009-10.

Norway's world champion Helene Olafsen won the women's race for her second World Cup victory of the season.

The 20-year old, fourth in Vancouver, could not catch Canada's Maelle Ricker at the top of the overall standings but the win ensured second place.

Ricker took bronze with Switzerland's Simona Meiller taking silver, her second medal of the season.
