Davide Appollonio scored the first victory of his professional career by winning the fourth and final stage of the Tour du Limousin in France, while Gustav Larsson took overall victory.
Despite being a sprinter, the Italian launched a late attack with 2km to go on the 180.8km ride and held on to record a narrow solo triumph.
Jose Joaquin Rojas Gil (Caisse d'Epargne) was the best of the rest in the bunch sprint which followed and Swede Larsson finished safely in the pack.
“When we started the last climb I still felt very strong although the stage had been really hard,” said Cervelo rider Appollonio.
“I didn’t want to wait for the sprint so I decided to attack and I made it through to the finish line."
