Monfils pushed hard by Tomic in Sweden
Top seed Gael Monfils was pushed all the way by Australia's Bernard Tomic in the second round of the ATP Stockholm event before winning 6-4 6-7(4) 6-4.
Monfils was a break down in the third set before finally rallying back at 4-4 and then winning the final two games of the match.
"It was a tough match," admitted Monfils.
“Bernard plays good. He’s young, he’s strong, he’s coming in great. He has a tricky game also.
“It’s not easy to come back on tour after struggling with injuries, so to find the rhythm was a bit tough, but still I think I played a tough match and it was great for me today.”
Bulgarian prospect Grigor Dimitrov also caused an upset as he beat Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela 6-2 5-7 6-1 to reach his fourth quarter-final of the year.
While, David Nalbandian rolled back the years to beat seventh seed Ivan Dodig 6-1 6-1
