Liga - Falcao hat-trick gives Atletico first away win
Radamel Falcao scored a hat-trick as Atletico Madrid stunned Real Sociedad 4-0 to register their first away victory of the Liga season at the Anoeta.
The away side scored goals at the start of either half through Falcao and Adrian Lopez before two lovely late finishes by the Colombian striker completed his treble and a memorable night for coach Diego Simeone.
Atletico enjoyed a lightning start, earning a penalty after barely 70 seconds when Diego's cross was handled by Vadim Demidov.
Up stepped Colombian Falcao, coveted by Europe's top clubs, to send Chilean keeper Claudio Bravo the wrong way.
Atleti were the classier side in the opening 45 minutes, with Adrian and Diego skilfully supporting Falcao while Real Sociedad appealed for several handballs in the box. They were unsuccessful, and the referee was correct on each occasion.
If La Real were told to take the game to Atleti in the second period, they were immediately put on the back foot when Juanfran attacked down the right and played a one-two with Falcao. The striker's touch to send the right-back away was exquisite; the cross to the back post was equally good, but Adrian contrived to head back into the diving body of goalkeeper Bravo.
However the ball dropped back to him and he tapped in.
Six Atletico defensive players were booked as they did everything to stop the home side from creating a chance, but they all avoided picking up a second yellow.
On 83 minutes Falcao was sent through by a long ball and spotted Bravo coming off his line a little quickly; he chipped a perfect finish over him and into the far corner.
And in the first minute of time added on, substitute Koke raced to the left byline to pull back for star man Falcao; he did not disappoint with a first-time sidefooted finish into the far corner which left the home fans whistling their team off the field.
The Txuri-urdin have now failed to score in five of their last six league games at home - winning one, drawing three and losing two - and stay 14th while Atletico move up to seventh.
