Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips came off the bench as the Ospreys edged past Connacht 19-17 to go top of the Celtic League.
Gareth Owen and Dan Biggar both scored tries for the hosts as they took control of the match early on.
But Sean Cronin's try kept Connacht in touch, and the Irish side took advantage of Biggar's patchy kicking to fight back into it and set up a nervy finish.
Ian Keatley kicked his fourth penalty of the match in the dying minutes to get the visitors to within two points.
The hosts' defence held firm, however, with Phillips - who came off the bench at half-time - looking rusty but effective in his first appearance since undergoing surgery last Autumn.
