Birmingham defender Curtis Davies was delighted with the 2-2 draw against Borussia Monchengladbach in the club's first pre-season friendly.
Davies headed Lee Clark's side in front and Akwasi Asante was also on the scoresheet as the Germans twice had to hit back from behind to earn a draw at the ESV Munich Sports Park.
"It was good to have a challenge like Monchengladbach so early," Davies told the club's official website. "On paper it looked like it was going to be a tough one with it being our first game. I think we did really well. I don't think you could tell the difference in the level of the two sides and I don't think you could tell a difference in the fitness.!
"We gave a good account of ourselves. The big thing about this result was the way we played as a team and the fitness," he added.
"Considering they were a team who have progressed to the Champions League qualifiers, I don't think we looked too far off them."
