Huber victorious in Altenberg skeleton
Olympic bronze medallist Anja Huber won European Championship gold while simultaneously winning the fourth race in the Viessmann FIBT Skeleton World Cup in Altenberg, Germany.
With snow teeming down, the 2008 World Champion completed her first run in 59.87 seconds and that was enough to secure victory as the event was cancelled shortly after due to safety concerns.
The German finished 0.10 seconds ahead of compatriot Katharina Heinz, the 2009 Junior World Champion, who claimed the first European Championship medal of her career.
Great Britain’s Shelley Rudman, an Olympic silver medallist in 2006, was edged out to the bronze position after finishing just 0.02 behind Heinz.
Melissa Hollingsworth’s fifth-place finish puts her at the top of the overall standings with 729 points, while World Champion Marion Thees is just one point behind her after finishing fourth.
