Aviva Premiership - 60 seconds with Ugo Monye
Eurosport caught up with England and Harlequins winger Ugo Monye for a touch more than 60 seconds as he showed off his new team suit at the RFU’s launch of a deal with fashion brand Eden Park.
They say you used to run 100m in 10.6 seconds as a youth. Is this true?
Yes, but in fact I’ve run quicker since, 10.33 seconds is my PB.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a rugby player?
I’d probably have gone to uni to study business management and would be working in athletics.
Your house is on fire and you can only save one possession. What would it be?
My watch. 100 per cent.
What type of watch is it?
Oh, it’s very shiny, nice. What’s on your iPod right now?
Nicki Minaj. She’s awesome.
What opponent have you most enjoyed beating?
Leicester. And I haven’t beaten them yet, but the All Blacks.
What is your best moment as a rugby player?
The third Test for the British and Irish Lions against South Africa, winning the game and scoring the winning try.
Which three people would you most like to sit down for dinner with?
I’d like to pick Wayne Rooney’s brain at the moment! And Arsene Wenger, I’m a big Arsenal fan (Ugo was born in Islington) so I’d love to speak to him. And possibly Will Ferrell, to bring a bit of light humour to the table.
What’s your worst habit?
Biting my nails.
What’s your most embarrassing moment on the pitch?
Being tackled from behind when I was 15 and they pulled my shorts down. It was a cold day.
If you could advertise one product what would it be?
Haribos. I love sweets.
What was your first car?
A Volkswagen Golf.
What was the first record or CD you bought?
My gosh that’s a hard one. I’m sure I can remember it though…Yes, it was something by Boys II Men, I bought it for a girl for Christmas. How cheesy is that?
Ugo Monye was speaking at an Eden Park press conference to announce their long-term partnership with the Rugby Football Union as the Official Formalwear supplier to the England Rugby Team.
