Champions League - Hamburg reject Real Ruud offer
Hamburg have rejected Real Madrid’s latest bid to re-sign Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.
After seeing an initial loan bid rebuffed for a player whose contract expires in the summer, Madrid reportedly offered €2 million and a showpiece friendly between the clubs.
This was not good enough for Hamburg sporting director Bernd Hoffmann.
"We have rejected a new and concrete offer from Real - we have explained our decision to the player and his agent," Hoffmann said.
"We want to do everything to qualify for Europe and it is thus unthinkable to let Van Nistelrooy leave now."
Former PSV and Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy, 34, joined Hamburg from Real last season and has scored six goals so far this campaign.
