Roberts re-signs with Saxo Bank
Luke Roberts has signed a one-year deal with Danish cycling team Saxo Bank-SunGard, a team he rode for from 2005-2007.
Now reunited with manager Bjarne Riis, the former Olympic track champion hopes he can make an immediate impact with the team.
"I'm extremely grateful that Bjarne Riis has offered me this opportunity and I really want to repay the trust the team has shown me in a difficult situation.
"I think I bring a lot to the team. I can make an impact in the classics, be a leader in smaller races and a hardworking domestic in Grand Tours.
"Last year I rode both the Giro (d'Italia) and the Tour de France for Milram."
Riis is happy to have Roberts with Saxo and hopes his experience will strengthen the team.
"We know Luke and his assets very well. He is a real pro, strong and experienced, and he is a rider you can rely on in all kinds of races.
"He has experience from Grand Tours and the ability to strengthen our classics group. So I'm obviously happy to get him on board."
The 34-year-old had previously rode with German outfit, Milram, until the team folded in December. Roberts then signed with the Austrain team Pegasus, but they too collapsed due to a lack of financial backing.
