Magalhaes crashes, Hanninen hits back
Bruno Magalhaes crashed out of the IRC Rally Acores after rolling his Peugeot 207 Super 2000 on SS6 in his homeland of Portugal.
And Juho Hanninen won SS7 to get himself back into the frame to win the rally.
He only gained 0.1 seconds on the defending IRC champion Andreas Mikkelsen, who leads him by 15.4 seconds in the overall standings. Mikkelsen had earlier triumphed on stage six.
Magalhaes, who was chasing Bryan Bouffier for the third podium position, hit trouble on the repeat of the 7km Feteiras stage.
Both men in the car escaped injury.
"I saw Bruno go off," Bouffier said afterwards. "The crew are okay. We lost some time when the marshals tried to slow us down. His car is on the roof. It is finished for him."
