Britain's Eley takes gold
Britain's Jon Eley secured gold in the men's 500-metre competition on the final day of the opening World Cup short track event of the season in Salt Lake City.
Eley passed Canada's Charles Hamelin on the final lap to cross the line in 41.558.
He told AP: “I didn’t get the best of starts, so I had to make sure I left it late.”
Eley was also a member of the British side that claimed silver in the 5,000 relay.
Meanwhile, Canada secured three medals, including Hamelin's silver in the men's 500.
Marianne St. Gelais secured an expected gold in the women's 500 final when beating Italy's Martina Valcepina and United States' Jessica Smith to the line.
St. Gelais was unbeaten in five World Cup events last winter.
Canada also won the men's 5,000 relay.
