Slovakia's Peter Sagan won stage six of the Tour of Spain on Thursday as France's Sylvain Chavanel retained the overall lead.

Sagan and three Liquigas team mates, including 2010 Tour of Spain winner Vincenzo Nibali of Italy, broke away on the fast final descent of the hilly 193.4kilometre stage from Ubeda to Cordoba.

Spain's Pablo Lastras was second with Italy's Valerio Agnoli third.

Chavanel came 10th in the stage and remained the overall race leader.
