Matthew Hatton finally stepped out of his brother Ricky's shadow to win the European welterweight title on points against veteran Gianluca Branco in Dagenham.
Despite taking the fight with only two weeks notice, the Manchester fighter produced a busy performance which was too much for the aging Italian.
Branco has been in the ring with likes of Arturo Gatti and Miguel Cotto in the past but he did not have the quickness to cause Hatton too many problems.
Branco is now nearly 40, while Hatton is still only 28 despite having fought 45 times.
Hatton was well in control as the fight entered the latter stages, and while he had to come through a shaky 11th round, he stayed out of trouble in the last to take the fight by a unanimous decision.
