Derby forward Jamie Ward was not risked in the reserve-team fixture against Sheffield United on Monday afternoon.
Ward is on the road to recovery from a thigh injury that has ruled him out of the last seven first-team matches.
The 25-year-old had been pencilled in for the Central League Central Division game at Belper's Christchurch Meadow.
"The game is a bit too soon for Wardy. We have a clear week and it is maybe better for him to have a good week's training," said Rams coach Andy Garner. "He has started running again but we don't want to take any risks with him. We will monitor him this week and see how he is ahead of the game against Bristol City on Saturday."
Ward suffered the injury in training while on international duty with Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile, the game against the Blades saw Derby lose 1-0 but the Rams remain top of the Central Division table despite the result.
