Wins for Northug and Bjoergen in Finland

Double Olympic champion Petter Northug and triple gold medallist Marit Bjoergen both continued their formidable FIS Cross-Country Skiing World Cup dominance with wins on day two of three in Finland.
Northug was sensational in the men’s 10km freestyle taking gold ahead of Italian Roland Clara by 23.8seconds and, while Bjoergen’s winning time in the women’s 5km freestyle was just 11.6 over Charlotte Kalla, she was equally impressive.
Bjoergen’s victory is her 50th individual World Cup one and comes a day after her win in the sprint classic in Kuusamo and a week after she opened the new season with victory in the 10km freestyle in Sjusjoen.
Northug had to settle for silver in the men’s opening individual event, the 15km freestyle last week, but did play a part in Norway’s 4x10km relay win as did Bjoergen in the women’s 4x5km equivalent.
And in an exact repeat of that opening women’s 10km freestyle race in Sjusjoen, Bjoergen clocked 11:45.3minutes in the 5km to get the better of Kalla with Vibeke Skofterud third – 1.3seconds behind the Swede.
