Winter Olympics - Alcott: I can win medal

Chemmy Alcott has made no secret of her medal ambitions after being confirmed in Great Britain's alpine skiing team for next month's Winter Olympics.

Preparations for Vancouver have been seriously hit by the news that SnowsportGB, the sport's British governing body, is on the verge of administration with six-figure debts.

Alcott is reportedly owed 20,000 while performance director Mark Tilson went five months without being paid.

However, the British number one is determined to put money talk aside as she bids to become the most successful British women's skier since Gina Hathorn finished just outside the medals in the slalom 42 years ago.

"Last time out, in Turin four years ago, I came 11th, but this time my aspirations are higher," said Alcott.

"I don't just want to break into the top ten - I do believe I've got the talent to challenge for a medal, and a gold one would be fantastic.

"Representing your country is something very, very special. I've hugely enjoyed my previous Olympic experience, but I hope this will be the best of them all.

"The Olympic Winter Games are without doubt the biggest event in our sport, so it's a massively exciting prospect for me to be going as part of Team GB."

Alcott is competing in her third Olympics but she'll be joined by three members of the men's team, who are all making their debut.

Dave Ryding and Ed Drake - who shared the overall title at last year's British Championships - are joined by Andy Noble but there is no place for Dougie Crawford, who missed his last chance to impress selectors at the recent Europa Cup event in Patscherkofel.
