Abshero storms to Dubai marathon win
Twenty-one-year-old Ayele Abshero of Ethopia ran a blistering time to win the Dubai marathon.
The youngster ran the fourth fastest time in marathon history - two hours, four minutes and 23 seconds - to lead an Ethiopian clean sweep of the podium.
It was his first marathon, and the fastest winning debut of all time.
Dino Sefir was second, 27 seconds adrift, with Markos Geneti a further four seconds behind.
“I thought I could run 2:04 today,” Abshero said. “But it's hard to plan for your first marathon as I really just didn't know what was going to happen.
"But I'm very happy. I'm now the number one in Ethiopia, and I think it could be the Olympic Games for me.”
In the women's race Asselefech Mergia Medessa defended her 2011 title in Dubai with a thrilling victory over Kenyan Lucy Wangui Kabuu, who was second by just three seconds.
Ethiopian Mare Dibaba finished third.
