Simon through, Seppi stunned in Romania
Top seed Gilles Simon sealed his progression through to the semi-finals of ATP Bucharest with a 3-6 6-1 6-3 victory over Lukas Kubot.
Simon looked sluggish early on as he lost the opening set 6-3 with the seventh seed Kubot looking good value for the ascendancy.
But the Frenchman showed his class with an emphatic display of powerful groundstrokes in the second set as he swept through to level up the match.
The third set looked finely poised early on, but again Simon stamped his authority on proceedings as he took it 6-3 to secure his place in the final four.
Simon will next take on German Matthias Bachinger after he defeated countryman Daniel Brands in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Fognini was in inspired form as he took the opening set with a stunning break of serve and, despite losing the second on a tie-break, responded to take the deciding set with a solitary break.
Fognini will next take on Attila Balazs after the Hungarian defeated Xavier Malisse of Belgium 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the semi-finals.
