Romania reach World Cup with win
Romania, who have qualified for all seven World Cups, were a far better side at home than in the first leg of the repechage in Montevideo two weeks ago when they were held 21-21.
Romania's tries were scored by centre Csaba Gal, number eight Alexandru Manta, wing Catalin Fercu, replacement back Madalin Lemnaru and there was a penalty try. Flyhalf Danut Dumbrava kicked 12 points.
After an early penalty miss by Dumbrava, Romania went ahead when Gal broke through the defence to touch down after several phases of attack.
Uruguay scrumhalf Manuel Martinez gave away a penalty try midway through the half and the visitors lost lock Diego Magno to a yellow card minutes later for collapsing a maul.
Manta, who scored a try in the first leg, added to Romania's tally with the third try while Uruguay were down to 14 men.
The Romanians might have had another try before halftime but centre Ionut Dimofte lost the ball on the line. They changed ends 21-0 up.
Dumbrava added a penalty within minutes of the restart before the amateur Uruguayans had their best spell close to the hour of play as they found room to run with the ball.
The centres combined in the middle for Martin Crosa to take a close pass from Juan de Freitas and run through for their first try which flyhalf Matias Arocena, who kicked 11 points in the first leg, converted.
However, replacements gave Romania new wind and Fercu and Lemnaru added late tries as the visiting defence was stretched, either side of a second try for Uruguay by replacement Emiliano Caffera.
