Port Vale have praised Shrewsbury for their handling of a fire that broke out at their Greenhous Meadow stadium during a game between the two.
Town were leading the game 1-0 when a fire started in the electric control room of the East Stand after 66 minutes. The Shrews called the game off and immediately began to evacuate the stand to prevent any injuries.
"Several Port Vale members of staff were in the East Stand last night when the game was stopped and the East Stand evacuated," a Valiants statement read. "Each and every one of them were impressed with the way the situation was dealt with by Shrewsbury Town, knowing that the incident could have become very serious indeed."
Shrewsbury praised the conduct of fans and stewards in the wake of the incident and Vale have also been quick to praise the speed at which people were evacuated.
"They handled the situation in an efficient and professional manner, moving everybody away from the affected areas in a matter of minutes.," the statement continued.
"As a club, we had people in the press box in the East Stand and also on the top floor, but Shrewsbury Town had the situation in control very quickly, as soon as they became aware of the fire in the stand."
