Seeds through in Munich
Nikolay Davydenko reached his first quarter-final since January on a good day for the seeds at the ATP Munich event.
Russia’s former world number three, who has dropped to 40 due to injury, has struggled since his first-round exit at the Australian Open but battled back from a set down to beat German qualifier Julian Reister 3-6 7-6(5) 6-1.
Davydenko next plays Marin Cilic after the Croat beat Horacio Zeballos 6-3 7-6(7).
Other second-round matches on Thursday saw German eighth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber beat compatriot Denis Gremelmayr 6-3 6-3, while another German seed Florian Mayer beat Russia’s Teymuraz Gabashvili 6-4 7-6(1).
