Sheffield United owner Kevin McCabe says plans are already in place to help the club secure automatic promotion to the npower Championship next season.
McCabe could not bring himself to speak with the press after his side's agonising 8-7 penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield in Saturday's npower League One play-off final at Wembley meant their bid to bounce straight back to the Championship ended in failure.
But McCabe told the club's official website: "We won't be wallowing in self pity. Yes, we have suffered a set-back. But we are looking to the future now, not back. The planning has already started and we are planning for success.
"We've had a successful season which has unfortunately ended in failure. We fell at the final hurdle and that hurts. It hurts a lot.
"But now we know what division we're in, everything begins in earnest. There are young players who I know the staff feel are ready to make the step-up and they'll be given the opportunity to do that, together with others I'm sure who will be coming in.
"The supporters have been fantastic this season and that's been very much noted and appreciated by all. We hope they stick with us, which we're sure they will do, because they're a crucial part of what we're trying to achieve."
