Free agent Paul Kariya will not play next season after being diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome, his agent said on Friday.
"After being examined by concussion specialist Dr. Mark Lovell, Paul is not able to play hockey due to post-concussion syndrome," Kariya's agent Don Baizley told reporters.
Kariya, taken with the fourth overall pick by the Anaheim Ducks in the 1993 draft, spent the last three seasons with the St Louis Blues and has been one of the NHL's most consistent point producers.
In a 15-year career that has also included stops in Colorado and Nashville, the 35-year-old Kariya has 402 goals and 989 points.
