Shrimpers net more Mohsni

Bilel Mohsni will remain at Southend after the club activated a 12-month clause in the enigmatic Frenchman's contract.

Mohsni had a contrasting campaign with the Shrimpers, with his impressive displays and crucial goals overshadowed by three suspensions and numerous bust-ups.

Manager Paul Sturrock most recently opted to keep faith with the versatile Mohsni in March after his antics at Morecambe, where he requested to be substituted before getting involved in a row with a home supporter and later storming out of the ground and taking the train home.

And the 24-year-old, who was out of contract this summer, has now been assured of his future at Roots Hall after Sturrock decided to trigger a clause in his deal.

"Bilel's contract had a year's option on it and we've decided to activate that," Sturrock told the Echo. "He can play virtually anywhere and his behaviour on the pitch also improved towards the end of last season. We obviously want that to continue and have decided to give him another 12 months."

A host of other players, including Ryan Leonard, Liam Dickinson and Mark Phillips, remain locked in talks over their futures at Southend.
