Liga - Malaga move into top six with home win
Malaga moved up to sixth place in the La Liga table with a deserved 2-1 win over Espanyol at La Rosaleda.
Rondon struck the opener for Malaga on five minutes when he swept the ball home from close range after a fine run and cross by Nacho Monreal.
The visitors did little of note in the first period, but equalised seconds before the break with their first attack of the night when Alvaro Vasquez headed home from Vladimir Weiss's free-kick.
Malaga needed a penalty to win it. The ball seemed to clatter Romaric without his knowledge, but he got off the ground dazed to see the referee point to the penalty spot.
Despite his protests that the ball had struck his head, home substitute Apono stepped up to send goalkeeper Christian Alvarez the wrong way as Malaga celebrated three points that they probably merited.
Manuel Pellegrini's side move up to sixth in the table with 16 points from 10 games a point ahead of Espanyol, who remain seventh after the weekend fixtures.
