The Canadian pair took the $18,000 first prize by following the ISU’s brief to avoid serious drama in their routines.

Another home pair, Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje, won silver ($13,000).

Italy's Anna Cappelini and Luca Lanotte won bronze ($9,000).

"We wanted to do an uplifting, entertaining programme," said Virtue.

The Hershey Centre crowd of 3,300 applauded a dance based on the 1957 musical 'Funny Face', having already dominated the competition in Saturday’s opening phase.

"It was a great weekend for us," added Moir.
