St Johnstone manager Steve Lomas hopes Cillian Sheridan will play before the new year and beyond despite being given bad news over the striker's hamstring injury.
The Irishman limped off during Saturday's 3-1 win over Hibernian and may not be fit before his loan deal from CSKA Sofia expires in early January.
Lomas said in several national newspapers: "Unfortunately Cillian is expected to be out for three to six weeks.
"It's a blow because he's an important player for us, but there's nothing we can do.
"I am hoping that he will still be able to play for us before the end of the year. I'm also keen to keep him beyond that."
The former Celtic forward has scored four goals during his second loan spell at McDiarmid Park and formed a promising partnership with Francisco Sandaza before being troubled by hamstring problems this month.
