Slade wants to keep stars

Boss Russell Slade is determined to hold on to Leyton Orient's key players after committing his own future to the club.

Slade penned a new contract until the end of the 2013/14 campaign on Tuesday and hopes to build on the Os' highest league finish for 18 years last season.

To do that, the former Yeovil manager believes retaining the services of Orient's leading lights is of paramount importance.

"I think there has been progress over the 18 months or so that I've been here and I think we've got some good players at the football club, but there's still an awful lot more work to do," Slade told the club's official website.

"That's another reason to commit to a longer-term contract because I still want to build something here, and make sure we retain the services of some of our players whose contracts are up in the summer.

"I think it's very important we keep those players here because we work very well together as a unit, and to retain the services of the likes of Stephen Dawson, and players like George Porter and Kevin Lisbie - these are important players to keep at the football club."
