Groothuis wins 1000m title
Holland's Stefan Groothuis claimed his third win of the season to secure the overall 1000m title at the ISU speed skating World Cup in Moscow.
Groothuis was aided by the fact nearest rivals, Korea's Kyou-Hyuk Lee and Shani Davis, were both absent beating Canada's Denny Morrison and Norway's Mikael Flygind-Larsen into the minor podium places.
Canada's Christine Nesbitt won the women's 1000m but it was not enough to overhaul American Heather Richardson, who tops the overall rankings after the five-stop series.
Elsewhere, there was another team pursuit success for Netherland's women while hosts Russia won the men's event.
However, Norway placed second to ensure they narrowly win the overall title.
