Team relay cancelled by technical issues
Technical issues forced the cancellation of the team relay event at the luge World Championships in Cesana.
FIL president Josef Fendt was left fuming as problems with the electronic timing at the 2006 Winter Olympic venue left competitors kicking their heels in the start house.
Team relay, in which competitors are only allowed to start after their team-mates flash across the finish line, is bidding to earn its place in the Olympic schedule for the 2014 Games in Sochi and International Olympic Committee observers will have been monitoring the event closely.
“I have no explanation," said Fendt.
“This winter we’ve already carried out five team relay events without any problem whatsoever – more than 60 runs of the team relay that went off without a hitch.
"And then, just at the season’s highlight, the technical issues fail us. It is very disappointing."
