Rory McIlroy was half-expected to have a bit of a disaster on Friday.

After all, he averages nearly 74 on Fridays at the Open compared to just over 69 on the other three days of the weekend - and he's had a string of second round implosions in all events this season.

But instead of a Freaky Friday he had a Fantastic Friday at Hoylake - the highlight of which was a double-birdie on the 8th.

A double birdie? Yep. One pheasant, and one ten foot putt to follow it that went dead in the cup:

The pheasant ran onto the green, stared the world number eight down for a minute or so, then skittered off into the crowd, leaving everyone laughing. As was McIlroy - though of course it's easy to laugh when you've already slain your demons for the day.
